Fresh off her Oscar win for Anora, Mikey Madison is already circling her next major move — and it might just involve battling the undead. According to multiple sources, Madison has been offered the lead role in Zach Cregger’s upcoming reboot of Resident Evil, which has Euphoria’s Austin Abrams already attached to star.
Before her breakout performance in Anora, Madison, who just turned 26, was best known for her role as the rebellious daughter in FX’s Better Things. She also appeared in 2022’s Scream and had a memorable supporting role in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. If Madison accepts, the project would mark a significant next chapter in her rising career — teaming her with one of the hottest horror directors in Hollywood and likely securing her a high-profile paycheck in the process.
Cregger, who made waves with his breakout horror hit Barbarian, is writing and directing the Resident Evil reboot for Sony, reportedly earning a $20 million fee for the job. The film is said to follow a hapless courier (Abrams) who is sent to deliver a mysterious package to a remote hospital, only to find himself caught in the middle of a deadly outbreak. Fighting to survive against hordes of mutated creatures, the courier becomes the unlikely center of a viral nightmare.

Production is slated to begin in the fall, just weeks after Cregger’s next feature, Weapons, hits theaters. The Resident Evil reboot is currently scheduled for a September 18, 2026 release.
The project has already drawn significant industry attention. A few months ago, it sparked a competitive bidding war among four major studios, including Warner Bros. and Netflix, before ultimately landing at Sony — the studio behind the previous series of Resident Evil films.
While no deal has been officially confirmed, Madison’s potential casting adds even more anticipation to a franchise revival already surrounded by buzz.
