Universal’s long-brewing Snoop Dogg biopic is finally moving forward, with Hustle & Flow director Craig Brewer stepping in to bring the story of the West Coast rap legend to the screen. Brewer replaces Allen Hughes at the helm of the project, which has spent years in development but now looks poised to enter production sooner rather than later.
The film will follow the rise of Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. — better known as Snoop Dogg — from his beginnings in Long Beach to his explosive entry into the world of hip-hop under the guidance of Dr. Dre. With his smooth delivery, West Coast cool, and unforgettable hits like 'Gin and Juice' and 'Drop It Like It’s Hot', Snoop became a defining voice in the genre.
Casting is underway, with producers aiming to find a fresh face for the lead role. Rather than going with a familiar name, they’re reportedly seeking a newcomer to step into Snoop’s iconic role — a move that could bring some fresh energy and authenticity to the story.

Brewer, known for balancing grit and music in films like Dolemite Is My Name, seems a fitting choice for the project. After a few bumps in the road, it looks like Snoop Dogg’s story is finally ready to hit the screen — laid-back flow and all.
