‘Truth Is Truth, But It’s Not Always What Matters’: De Niro and Bassett in New Netflix Show

Two Oscar-winning legends, Robert De Niro and Angela Bassett, are joining forces in upcoming political thriller Zero Day.

Upcoming Zero Day, the six-episode limited series is set to premiere in February 2025, promising a gripping story that delves into modern threats and moral dilemmas.

Zero Day follows former U.S. President George Mullen (De Niro) and current President Evelyn Mitchell (Bassett) as they investigate a devastating cyberattack that has plunged the country into chaos. “Zero Day explores the aftermath of a cyberattack that kills thousands and pushes a nation to the brink,” said Eric Newman to Netflix, a writer and executive producer for the show.The attack prompts the formation of the 'Zero Day Commission,' a task force with sweeping powers to surveil and seize without traditional legal constraints.

Robert De Niro and Angela Bassett 'Zero Day'

Bassett’s character captures the tension of the series, stating: "Truth is truth, but it’s not always what matters." This highlights the show’s exploration of the conflict between safety and freedom.

Star-Studded Cast

The ensemble includes Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Plemons, Joan Allen, Connie Britton, Matthew Modine, and special guest stars Bill Camp, Dan Stevens, and Clark Gregg, creating a cast rich with talent and depth.

A Rare Role for De Niro

This marks a rare television appearance for Robert De Niro, who takes on the role of a former president navigating the fallout of a national crisis. In the trailer, his character says: "This is a war. We’re going to win it." His performance is expected to be one of his most riveting in years.

In an era dominated by cybersecurity and misinformation, Zero Day explores the human and political costs of national safety. With its powerhouse cast, timely themes, and skilled creative team, Zero Day is set to be one of Netflix’s most anticipated releases of 2025.
