HBO’s Harry Potter series is officially in development, and one of the first big names linked to the project is Tom Felton. Yes, that Draco Malfoy. Only this time, he won’t be casting spells — he’ll be working behind the scenes as a creative consultant.
Felton won’t be appearing in the series in his familiar role — at least, not officially. His involvement is limited to advising the creators and helping them capture the spirit of the magical world. But the internet is already buzzing: what if he does return in a new role? Perhaps as Lucius, Draco’s father. Or maybe a quick cameo. There’s no confirmation yet — but no denial either.
Who else is in and when to expect the premiere
HBO has already opened casting for the main roles. The new Harry, Ron, and Hermione will be played by children aged 9–11 from the UK or Ireland. Young hopefuls are asked to submit two short videos: one reciting a poem or story, and another introducing themselves. The studio is clearly betting on fresh faces and actors unconnected to the original franchise.

Who will play the new McGonagall and Bellatrix
Most of the roles remain uncast, but speculation is already swirling. Janet McTeer, known from the series Kaos, is being seriously considered for Professor McGonagall. As for Bellatrix Lestrange, several actresses are reportedly in the running, but no clear favourite has emerged. Fans online are already debating their ideal cast lists.
Familiar faces returning?
The most unexpected rumour? That Cillian Murphy is being eyed for the role of Voldemort. Although he already appeared in the Potter films in a different role, fans don’t seem to mind — his charisma and dark magnetism are more than convincing. If true, this casting could serve as a bridge between the original and the new versions of the story.
