In the realm of science fiction, films about the future are nothing new. Such movies often include predictions that may seem impossible at first. However, over time, some of these visions unexpectedly come true.
Take, for example, the 1960s film 2001: A Space Odyssey, which portrayed voice recognition, mobile phones, and computers as futuristic wonders — all of which are now part of everyday life for millions. We've gathered a few more cinematic predictions to explore what filmmakers have suggested we might be facing over the next five years.
Children of Men, 2027
Alfonso Cuarón painted a bleak vision of a world in which humanity faces extinction due to global infertility. Children have simply stopped being born for nearly two decades. The protagonist of Children of Men, played by Clive Owen, escorts a young refugee and becomes her protector. Along the way, he discovers that the girl is pregnant — and her unborn child may be humanity’s last hope.

Fortunately, in our reality, despite various demographic crises, such a grim scenario is unlikely to unfold by 2027.
RoboCop, 2028
In José Padilha’s remake, a fallen police officer is resurrected as a cyborg in the year 2028. In this form, the protagonist of RoboCop takes revenge on those who wronged him — but his existence inevitably raises questions about control over robotic beings. As unbelievable as the story may seem, Dubai has already begun testing android police officers. The country hopes to deploy them in police departments by 2030.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day, 2029
James Cameron’s franchise illustrates what can happen when artificial intelligence escapes human control. Machines wage war on humanity, with the climax taking place in the year 2029.

That’s when, in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Skynet sends the T-1000 back in time to assassinate John Connor. However, as the Terminator’s story has shown us, even machines can come to understand the value of human life. Which means, hopefully, we’ll avoid any actual apocalypses in the future.
