Amazon’s hit action film Road House is officially getting a sequel — and it’s coming with a change behind the camera. British director Guy Ritchie has been confirmed to lead Road House 2, with Jake Gyllenhaal returning in the starring role. The script is being written by Will Beall.
The original Road House became a major streaming success earlier this year, drawing over 50 million viewers globally during its first weekend on Prime Video. It became Amazon MGM Studios’ most-watched original film debut to date.
Ritchie’s involvement marks a notable shift in tone for the franchise. Known for his stylised approach to crime and action — including titles like Snatch, Sherlock Holmes, and The Gentlemen — he brings a distinct directorial voice to the sequel. His latest projects include the upcoming films Fountain of Youth and In the Grey, as well as the Paramount+ series Mobland.

The first Road House, directed by Doug Liman, was at the centre of some behind-the-scenes controversy. Liman publicly criticised Amazon’s decision to release the film exclusively on streaming, expressing disappointment in an op-ed that the project didn’t receive a theatrical release. He has since stepped away from the sequel.
Despite the debate, the film found strong support from audiences at home. Its over-the-top style and energetic performances — particularly from Gyllenhaal and co-star Conor McGregor — helped it resonate with viewers looking for an action-packed watch.
There is no release date yet for Road House 2, but with Ritchie at the helm, fans can likely expect a sequel that blends sharp visuals with high-impact action.
