The story of the kitten surviving during the flood has already won the hearts of both critics and audiences.

While Hollywood is just kicking off the awards season and the Golden Globe ceremony has already handed out all the statuettes, the internet is also anticipating loud premieres — and one of the recipients of that very Golden Globe will be available for streaming this week. Flow the animated film by Latvian director Gints Zilbalodis, is already being predicted to achieve even greater victories and a nomination for an Oscar, and now everyone will have the chance to assess it’s chances for success.

Flow will be available to watch online starting January 7

According to reports, this date is set for the digital premiere of the animated film. Flow was released in limited theatres at the end of November, and it received it’s first positive reviews at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was nominated in the "Un Certain Regard" category. The plot centers around a black cat living in a forest that is suddenly engulfed by a massive flood. To survive, the cat must take refuge in a boat along with dogs, a lemur, and a capybara.

The animated film has impressed critics and audiences with its uniqueness

Still from the animated movie 'Flow' (2024)

Unlike it's competitors in the "Best Animated Feature" category, Flow is nothing like the animated films we have long been accustomed to watching. From the very first minutes of the film, the viewer's attention is drawn to the unusual graphics — Flow is entirely shot in a 3D program, and it took a full four years to create the animation. Additionally, the characters in the film do not utter a single word and, like real animals, communicate only through sounds, so viewers will need to pay even closer attention to everything happening on screen.
