On Tuesday (1 April), the highly anticipated thriller featuring The Weeknd released its second trailer, taking viewers deeper into his bewildering odyssey. Directed by Trey Edward Shults, the film stars Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan alongside The Weeknd, who plays a fictionalised pop star version of himself. Ortega portrays his love interest, leading him on a psychotic journey that tests the very depths of his soul.
In a chilling moment from the trailer, The Weeknd’s character asks Ortega’s Anima, “Have we met before?” The atmosphere turns eerie as Ortega is shown igniting a house and tying up the XO frontman while performing what appears to be a satanic ritual.
This film serves as a companion piece to The Weeknd’s album Hurry Up Tomorrow, which was released in February and marked his retirement from his artistic alias. Director Shults expressed his hope that both fans and newcomers would find satisfaction in the film.
Hurry Up Tomorrow debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, earning 490,500 equivalent album units in its first week. Just before the film's release on 16 May, The Weeknd will kick off his After Hours Til Dawn Tour on 9 May in Phoenix.
