Shawn Levy, the director steering Star Wars: Starfighter, has learned a Jedi-worthy lesson from an unexpected source — the Upside Down. In a recent interview with Variety, the Stranger Things and Free Guy mastermind opened up about the biggest takeaway from his time in Hawkins: knowing when to zip it.
"Stranger Things taught me to keep my mouth shut," Levy admits. "So I'm really grateful for that because I kept the Ryan Gosling news and the title and release date of my Star Wars movie pretty damn quiet for a long time. So I'm quite proud of myself and grateful to Stranger Things for making me shut my mouth."
And quiet he’s been. Despite fans itching for details, Levy has kept the lid tightly sealed on the upcoming Star Wars installment — a space-set thriller rumored to bring a new edge to the galaxy. All while juggling production on Stranger Things Season 5 — the nostalgic, neon-soaked finale that’s expected to break hearts and records.

In other words, if there’s one director who can balance teen horror, sci-fi battles, and A-list secrets, it’s Shawn Levy — with his lips sealed and lightsaber ready.
Star Wars: Starfighter is scheduled for release on May 28, 2027. Production is set to begin in fall 2025, following the release of The Mandalorian & Grogu in May 2026.
