Joel and Ethan Coen have long been famous for not being shy about experimenting with genres and have already tried themselves in a huge number of different films, but one genre in the directors' filmography remains unexplored - well, almost.
Back in the 1980s, one of the brothers managed to get on the set of one of the films of the director, who later became the author of the cult superhero franchise for Marvel - however, before that, the filmmaker worked with the Coens on another film, which later became a world-famous superhero horror.
The Coen brothers' career began with an acquaintance with the director of Spider-Man
A coincidence led the Coens to work on the horror action film with Liam Neeson - long before the film was released, Joel Coen worked as an assistant on the set of The Evil Dead, directed by Sam Raimi. The latter and Coen quickly found a common language, then Joel introduced Raimi to his brother - this is how their friendship and joint work on several projects began. Over the next few years, the directors closely collaborated, now and then helping each other in the creation of new films on both sides.

The Coen Brothers Helped Write the Screenplay for Darkman
Raimi tried to pitch the idea for the future film to major studios for a long time, and only in 1987 did Universal give the go-ahead to begin production. Then, however, the first difficulties arose - having started working on the script, Raimi realized that transferring the idea to the screen would not be as easy as it seemed before. The director realized that he would need the help of young blood to continue working on the film - this is where the Coen brothers joined the process. For some reason, the brothers' work on Darkman was not mentioned in the film's credits, but is considered a key factor in the film's future success - Darkman collected almost $ 50 million in box office and paved the way for two sequels, Darkman 2: The Return of Durand and Darkman 3: Die, Darkman!
