Stylish, Young, and All at Once: The Beatles Get a Cinematic Reboot

Global Look Press — The Beatles and Sam Mendes

Four British rising stars bring the iconic four back to screens.

Sam Mendes is set to reinvent the Beatles story with an unprecedented cinematic experiment: four separate films, each focused on a different member of the legendary band, all releasing on the same day in April 2028. Unveiled at CinemaCon, the project was dubbed a "first binge-able theatrical experience" by Sony Pictures head Tom Rothman — a bold move that reimagines how audiences engage with film.

The cast is as bold as the format.

All four are standout names from the new wave of British talent, known for acclaimed roles in Triangle of Sadness, Aftersun, Stranger Things, and The Banshees of Inisherin.

Mendes confirmed he will direct all four films, with production expected to begin in the UK by mid-2025. He also revealed that principal photography will wrap within 12 months — an ambitious schedule, considering the scale of the project.

Each film will feature a different screenwriter, including Peter Straughan (Conclave) and Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917), bringing unique perspectives to each Beatle’s life. For Mendes — known for films like Skyfall and 1917 — the project represents a significant commitment. Following the modest reception of Empire of Light, the creative and logistical stakes are notably high.

Still, the concept is undeniably fresh: one band, four perspectives, one release date. Whether audiences will truly binge all four films — and in what order — remains to be seen. But one thing’s certain: the Beatles are getting a reboot unlike anything we’ve seen before.
