Leonardo DiCaprio is an actor whose filmography, at first glance, seems like a lineup of masterpieces: from Titanic to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, from The Wolf of Wall Street to Shutter Island. Even his early works like The Quick and the Dead or The Basketball Diaries comfortably sit above 6+ on IMDb. But there’s one film that crashes this near-perfect record with a deafening thud.
We’re talking about Critters 3, which holds a humiliating 4.5/10 rating. Yes, it’s the worst-reviewed film of DiCaprio’s career — and the only one IMDb users deemed truly bad.
Why Is Critters 3 a Franchise Embarrassment?
The third film about ravenous alien monsters was the first to skip theaters entirely and head straight to video. And for good reason: the budget was tiny, the script predictable, and the special effects looked like they were slapped together on a shoestring.

"Cheap, ultra-low-budget movie packed with clichés," "Seriously lacking originality — the critters just roll around, shoot darts, and pull off dumb comedy bits," "The only interesting thing here is young DiCaprio," reviewers wrote.
Sixteen-year-old Leo plays Josh Briggs — a spoiled teen with an annoying stepfather. He hadn’t yet become the DiCaprio we know today, but even in this B-movie, his talent was already peeking through. Still, the actor later admitted he was embarrassed by the role and preferred not to talk about it.
Should You Watch It?
Only out of curiosity — to see where the future Oscar winner began. And to appreciate just how far he’s come, from cheesy alien furballs to intense Scorsese dramas.

Critters 3 isn’t really a film — it’s more of a historical artifact. But maybe, just maybe, without it, we wouldn’t have the DiCaprio we know today. After all, even the greats started out in pure trash.
