Paolo Sorrentino knows the answer to a question that has intrigued many fans of the cult series The Young Pope and The New Pope. The show's theme, which explored the internal intrigues and conflicts within the walls of the Holy City, is more relevant than ever, and now Sorrentino has finally clarified whether a continuation of the series is possible.
The stories about the inner workings of the Vatican gained attention through Sorrentino’s series, and later two films, The Two Popes and the recent Conclave, further delved into intriguing Vatican topics. However, in an interview with the Movieweb Sorrentino himself states that he’s no longer interested in the subject and has closed that chapter for good.
"I believe that two TV series on the Vatican is even too many, one would have been enough," he said. "But I’m too old and tired to make another TV series."
Interestingly, Sorrentino hasn’t seen The Conclave yet, but he knows that some of the props from his own work were used in the film.
"I haven’t had a chance to see The Conclave yet. I do know that they used my own Sistine Chapel, the one I had built, but I haven’t watched the movie yet."
