He shared the ring with Hugh Jackman. He shared the screen with Ryan Reynolds. And in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Kevin Durand's turn as the colossal Freddy Dukes — better known as The Blob — was nothing short of unforgettable. So when fans spotted the oversized mutant in the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, many assumed Durand was back. He wasn’t.
Speaking with Comic Book while promoting Clown in a Cornfield, the actor revealed why he didn’t return for the long-awaited Marvel team-up.
"You know" Durand recalled, "Hugh Jackman kept saying to me while we were shooting that scene in the ring, 'Oh my God, they’re gonna go crazy for this character. Get used to doing this makeup process.'" But as Durand puts it, "It never came back around."

The real reason? Time. "It would take seven and a half hours to get fully into the makeup and the layers of costuming" he explained. In the end, The Blob does appear — but in a non-speaking cameo, played by Mike Waters.
Still, Durand remains hopeful. "He’s a terrific character," he said. "I would love to get under all those layers to explore Freddy Dukes again."

And let’s be honest — so would we.
