While specific plot details remain under wraps, it has been confirmed that the new animated show will take place after the events of the two Ted live-action movies. Seth MacFarlane will reprise his role as the voice of Ted, bringing his signature humor and personality to the new series. The original cast members are also returning: Mark Wahlberg as John, Amanda Seyfried as Sam, and Jessica Barth as Tami-Lynn will reprise their roles from the films. Additionally, new characters will be introduced, with Kyle Mooney voicing Apollo and Liz Richman voicing Ruth.
This announcement marks the second Ted”TV project at Peacock. The streamer already airs a live-action prequel series that debuted in January 2024. That show broke records as Peacock’s most-watched original title to date, demonstrating the franchise’s strong fanbase and popularity. A second season of the prequel is currently in development. MacFarlane continues to lend his voice to Ted in this series, while Richman also appeared in multiple episodes as Polly, John’s high school classmate.
The new animated series is a collaborative effort with MacFarlane serving as writer and executive producer alongside Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh, who are also showrunners for the prequel series. The production involves several key players from MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door Entertainment, including Erica Huggins, Alana Kleiman, Jason Clark, and Aimee Carlson, all serving as executive producers. Claudia Katz of Rough Draft is also involved in production. The series is produced by UCP in partnership with Fuzzy Door and MRC.
The original Ted movies were major box office successes: the first film in 2012 grossed nearly 550 million world wide on a 65 million budget, making it one of the most profitable comedies of its time. Its 2015 sequel earned over $215 million globally. Both films were produced by Universal Pictures and MRC Films.
