Martin Scorsese hasn’t directed a film since Killers of the Flower Moon wrapped in October 2021, and anticipation is building around what he’ll take on next.At 82, the acclaimed filmmaker remains creatively active, though even he acknowledges that time is moving quickly.
In a recent interview with USA Today, he shared a moment of honesty — and a bit of humor — about his current state of limbo. "I don’t know what’s next; I’ve got to get going here," he said with a laugh, reaching toward a nearby pile of scripts. "I have some reading to do."
Despite not having chosen his next film, Scorsese is hardly idle. He’s connected to an impressive lineup of potential projects, including Home, Devil in the White City, The Life of Jesus, Sinatra, and untitled Hawaii-set crime film starring Dwayne Johnson.

Notably, five of these six projects feature Leonardo DiCaprio, Scorsese’s frequent collaborator and long-standing muse. But DiCaprio’s schedule may delay things: he’s expected to film Damien Chazelle’s next project this summer and promote Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another in the fall. Unless Scorsese moves forward without DiCaprio or recasts, Home appears to be the most feasible next step.
In the meantime, Scorsese made a notable cameo in the Apple TV+ series The Studio, created by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The show offers a satirical look at the inner workings of Hollywood, featuring Rogen as Matt Remick, the newly appointed head of a struggling film studio.

Scorsese’s appearance, along with other industry heavyweights like Charlize Theron and Steve Buscemi, adds a layer of authenticity and humor to the series. Rogen mentioned that these cameos were written with specific stars in mind, and he was pleasantly surprised that many agreed to participate.
For now, the scripts are stacked, the director is eager, and the next chapter in Scorsese’s legendary filmography is just waiting to be written.
