Ruined by the Finale: Mistakes 'Game of Thrones' Fans Still Can't Forgive

Stills from the series 'Game of Thrones' (2011)

Fans of the story believe that the final seasons were unsuccessful.

Game of Thrones remains a masterpiece in the world of television series. Despite the fact that the show ended and no new episodes have aired since 2019, the number of fans of the Seven Kingdoms’ story continues to grow.

True fans remember every event and can easily name the episode in which a particular turning point occurred. However, there are mistakes that viewers cannot forgive the creators for — flaws that caused the series to lose its strength by the finale.

The Pacing of Game of Thrones

First, internet users have pointed out how time changed in Game of Thrones. In the first six seasons, viewers had enough moments to connect with each character and analyze the consequences of political intrigues. It was this slow storytelling that made the Red Wedding scene so shockingly effective.

However, in seasons seven and eight, the pace increased significantly, as did the length of episodes. Unfortunately, this negatively affected the story’s quality — major events were portrayed illogically, and key storylines were given only a few scenes.

As a result, after the finale, viewers were left with many questions about different characters. And very few accepted Bran Stark as the king.

Unsuccessful Character Arcs in Game of Thrones

One of the most disappointing characters for fans was Jaime Lannister. At first, watching his development was fascinating, as he transformed from a cynical killer into a deep and understanding person, breaking free from his sister’s tyranny.

But in the finale, he returns to Cersei and proudly declares that he doesn’t care about anyone else. The writers justified this as the power of love, but fans saw it as an unsatisfying conclusion.

Equally abrupt was Daenerys’ transformation into the Mad Queen. The issue was that this shift occurred in just an hour of screen time. In contrast, George R.R. Martin’s books frequently reference Daenerys' character traits, gradually leading readers toward her descent into madness.

Additionally, the White Walkers’ army left many unanswered questions. The villains that had terrified characters throughout the entire story were defeated in just one battle. The connection between the Night King and Bran, which had been built up for years, also remained unclear.
