Fresh off the record-breaking success of Deadpool & Wolverine, which soared past $1.3 billion at the global box office, Ryan Reynolds is doing something unexpected: stepping away from the solo spotlight. True to recent comments that he doesn’t see another standalone Deadpool film in his future, the actor and producer is instead quietly developing a potential ensemble movie — one that could pair Deadpool with a team of X-Men in a new, unexpected story.
According to insiders, Reynolds is experimenting with early treatments for a film that would feature three or four mutants from the X-Men universe, with Deadpool possibly taking a more supporting role. The idea, reportedly, is to allow the mutant team to shine in fresh, perhaps unconventional ways. As always, Reynolds insists on a strong creative justification for any Deadpool project—and letting the merc with a mouth step back just a little might be exactly that.
At the same time, Reynolds is devoting serious energy to another kind of ensemble: a musical comedy at Paramount titled Boy Band, which he’s co-writing and plans to star in. The film could see Hugh Jackman — his partner in cinematic crime — return for another round of on-screen mischief. While the project is still in development, the prospect of Jackman and Reynolds swapping claws for microphones has fans understandably intrigued.

Although these projects are still in early stages, Reynolds appears more focused than ever on the writing side of his career. As he told The Hollywood Reporter, "I’m more passionate about storytelling than I am about acting." That passion now seems to be pulling him in new creative directions — ones that could redefine what a Deadpool (or a boy band) movie even looks like.
