Even "young Tom Hanks" and the reunion of the Oscar-winning film cast couldn't win over audiences' hearts. Robert Zemeckis' new film Here initially struggled to achieve box office success.Originally, it grossed just $15.7 million worldwide against a $50 million production budget.
However, the situation changed once the film was made available on Netflix. Like many recent releases, Here found a warmer reception on the streaming platform, unlike its theatrical performance.
The movie has since gained new life on Netflix, where it has remained in the U.S. Top 10 charts since its debut. Here premiered in theaters on November 1 before landing on the streaming platform on January 30, where it currently holds the number nine spot, with its peak at number two.
The film features Tom Hanks, who, thanks to technology, was de-aged by several decades. Robin Wright also appears, reuniting with Hanks from their iconic role in Forrest Gump. The film was directed by Zemeckis, with the screenplay written by Eric Roth, the same writer from Forrest Gump.
The 2024 drama boasts a unique premise, following the lives of multiple families living in the same location over centuries, even spanning back to when dinosaurs roamed the earth. The story centers around Hanks and Wright's characters, Richard and Margaret, boyfriend and girlfriend and later husband and wife, at different points in their lives.
