Oz Perkins Credits Family Member: Director’s New Movie Coming to Life Because of Loved One

Oz Perkins

His personal experiences deeply shape the themes and direction of filmmaking.

It turns out that the 16-year-old daughter of director Oz Perkins has such a strong impact on his creative process. As a result, his next project will be dedicated to her.

In an interview with MovieWeb, Perkins shared that his upcoming film will focus on teenagers. This decision stems from his desire to create a movie that speaks in the voice of his daughter. According to the director, the film about teenagers will be one of the wildest concepts imaginable.

"I have something I'm working on that's [about] present-day teenagers, and is, I gotta say, the wildest f**king thing I've ever written. So it'll probably be that. I have a 16-year-old daughter, and I wanted to write a movie that sounds like how she speaks. It's in front of me, I usually try to take what's in my environment, and there it is."

Perkins made a name for himself as an indie auteur with two of the best horror films of the 2010s — The Blackcoat's Daughter and I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House. However, his last two projects, one of which hasn’t even been released yet but has already generated a significant buzz, have given him the confidence to discuss his future endeavors.

Perkins’ rapid ascent in the past year is largely due to his occult masterpiece Longlegs and his newest Stephen King adaptation, the darkly absurd splatter comedy The Monkey.
