The holdovers (2023)

Angus is forced to stay at his boarding school for Christmas holidays, along with an unsympathetic history teacher and a cook who grieves for her son who died in Vietnam. Each of the characters is lonely in his own way, but as the action progresses, they really get to know each other and get closer. A touching film about empathy, understanding of one's neighbor and the ability to make self-sacrifice.

The Girl with matches (2013)

The heroine of the story based on the tale by Hans Christian Andersen is an orphan Inga, who lives in an orphanage with a friend. On Christmas Eve, the children go out to the square to sell matches to the townspeople, but the proceeds are so small that Inga decides to take a desperate step.

Every 25 years, an angel descends in the village of Gladbury on Christmas Day and touches one of the Christmas candles. According to legend, a real miracle will happen to the person who lights this candle. However, the local tradition is under threat when, at the end of the 19th century, a new mayor arrives in the village, who intends to replace candles with electric light.
