Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly, featuring George Clooney in the lead role, is set to premiere on Netflix on December 5.
Alongside the release announcement, Netflix revealed a first-look image of the film accompanied by a mysterious tagline:
“Everybody knows Jay Kelly, but Jay Kelly doesn’t know himself.”

This strategy aligns with Netflix’s typical approach for fall releases aimed at garnering awards attention — first a qualifying theatrical run followed by streaming closer to year-end.
The ensemble cast of Jay Kelly includes Grace Edwards, Stacy Keach, Riley Keough, Emily Mortimer, Patrick Wilson, Nicôle Lecky, Thaddea Graham, Jim Broadbent, Eve Hewson, Alba Rohrwacher, Lenny Henry, Josh Hamilton, and Greta Gerwig. Baumbach co-wrote the screenplay with Emily Mortimer and serves as a producer alongside David Heyman and Amy Pascal.
Jay Kelly is Baumbach’s second feature under his multi-year deal with Netflix; he previously adapted Don DeLillo’s novel White Noise, which starred Gerwig and Adam Driver and was released in December 2022 after premiering at major film festivals. Before that, Baumbach directed the acclaimed Marriage Story, which earned six Academy Award nominations.
