No Title, No Release Date – Only These Key Details on Zac Efron & Will Ferrell’s New Comedy

Zac Efron and Will Ferrell

A convict, a reality TV judge, and one wild hostage situation.

Zac Efron is set to star alongside Will Ferrell in an untitled Amazon MGM comedy, directed and written by Nicholas Stoller (Neighbors, Forgetting Sarah Marshall). The film, previously titled Judgement Day, promises a hilarious and high-stakes showdown between a disgruntled ex-con and a larger-than-life reality TV judge.

A Hostage Situation with a Twist

The story follows a young convict, freshly released from prison, who takes a reality courtroom show hostage. Why? Because he blames the show’s egotistical judge — played by Ferrell — for a past ruling that he believes ruined his life. Efron steps into the role of the revenge-driven ex-con, setting the stage for an outrageous and unpredictable clash.

A Powerhouse Comedy Team

The film brings together some of comedy’s biggest names, with Stoller at the helm. Stoller, who recently directed You're Cordially Invited, Amazon’s top-charting comedy starring Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon, will also produce through his Stoller Global Solutions banner. Ferrell is producing under Gloria Sanchez Productions, alongside Jessica Elbaum and Alex Brown.

Efron’s Recent Projects

Zac Efron in 'Ricky Stanicky' (2024)

Efron continues his streak of exciting roles. He recently starred in Prime Video’s Ricky Stanicky, a Peter Farrelly comedy, and wrapped production on Famous, a thriller where he plays both a heartthrob actor and his obsessed fan. Meanwhile, A24 — fresh off releasing Efron’s wrestling drama The Iron Claw — has secured domestic rights for Famous.

With a unique premise, an A-list comedy duo, and Stoller’s sharp writing, this untitled Amazon MGM project is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated comedies in development. Stay tuned!
