Baz Luhrmann may have found his next leading lady — and her name is already sparking excitement. According to industry chatter, The Last of Us and Game of Thrones star Bella Ramsey has been offered, and is reportedly interested in, the title role in Jehanne d’Arc, Luhrmann’s long-rumoured take on the story of France’s iconic teenage warrior-saint.
Still in the casting phase, the film is being described as an "epic retelling" of Joan of Arc’s life, tracing the journey of a young peasant girl who claimed divine guidance and led an army during the Hundred Years' War. The project, which takes its title from Joan’s original French name, will be distributed by Warner Bros and continues Luhrmann’s tradition of visually bold, emotionally charged storytelling — as seen in Elvis, The Great Gatsby, and Romeo + Juliet.
While no production date has been confirmed, Luhrmann is said to have begun scouting locations earlier this year. That, combined with the casting buzz around Ramsey, suggests the project is quietly gaining momentum. If cast, Ramsey would follow in the footsteps of legendary portrayals by Maria Falconetti, Ingrid Bergman, and more recently, Milla Jovovich — though likely with Luhrmann’s signature cinematic flair.

Given Ramsey’s recent rise as a fierce, grounded screen presence, the idea of her donning armour in a stylised historical epic feels less like speculation and more like destiny in motion.
