Quentin Tarantino is one of the most influential Hollywood directors of our time. His authority in the industry is unshakable, and many of his colleagues take his opinions seriously.
Tarantino, in turn, often shares his thoughts on the state of cinema. For example, he recently reflected on some of his favourite films — and it turns out he’s not much of a fan of recent releases. His favourites are nearly a century old.
Quentin Tarantino’s Favourite Film
In a recent episode of The Video Archives podcast, the Pulp Fiction director revealed his personal top three most treasured films. Unsurprisingly, all of his picks belong to the golden age of classic cinema.

Tarantino expressed a particular fondness for The Man in the Iron Mask (1939). This historical melodrama tells the story of a mysterious fifth musketeer whose arrival poses a serious threat to the reigning French monarch.
What Other Films Did Tarantino Highlight?
Tarantino also praised the 1940 adventure film The Son of Monte Cristo — a dynamic drama about a daring adventurer who leads a rebellion against a cunning usurper. The director noted that this film set a standard for many modern historical adventure movies.

A special place in his list goes to the 1936 classic adaptation of The Last of the Mohicans, which transports viewers to the heart of the colonial wars over North American territory.
Interestingly, these stories are also familiar to those who grew up in the USSR. The original adventure novels and their film adaptations were once wildly popular among Soviet readers and viewers alike.
