Some deaths are frightening not because of the blood, but because of their hopelessness. This is exactly what happened with the character of Ella Purnell (Fallout, Arcane) in Yellowjackets.
When her friends in the woods formed a pack, Jackie became an outsider. She didn’t pray, didn’t follow the new rules, didn’t try to fit into this chaotic order. And in the end, she was simply pushed out of their small world, leading to the conclusion of the first season.
Jackie left the cabin into the darkness and cold. She couldn’t start a fire, and the frost hit sharply at night, with snow falling. Dying from hypothermia is terrifying. You fall asleep thinking it’s getting warmer, but in reality, your body is just giving up.

What was this? A punishment from the mysterious forces of the forest? Or just ordinary teenage cruelty, amplified by fear and despair? Perhaps it’s both. For it’s after her death that something truly dark awakened in the girls.
