Meryl Streep and Martin Short Share a Kiss on Set of 'Only Murders in the Building': Newlyweds in Character

Still from the series 'Only Murders in the Building' (2021)

The award-winning actors portray newlyweds Oliver Putnam and Loretta Durkin on the hit Hulu series, and their on-screen chemistry was evident as they packed on the PDA during a scene shot in New York City on May 7.

Meryl Streep and Martin Short were recently spotted sharing a kiss while filming for season 5 of Only Murders in the Building.

In the photos, Short, 75, is seen running alongside Streep's character, holding a banana while they engage in affectionate moments, including cuddling and kissing. While it's unclear what their characters are rushing toward, Loretta may be joining Oliver, Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez), and Steve Martin (Charles-Haden Savage) to tackle another murder mystery plaguing the city.

Executive producer Dan Fogelman hinted at an exciting new storyline during a January interview with The Wrap, promising "another big fun mystery" for viewers. He praised the comfort and chemistry among the main cast, noting how enjoyable it is to explore new aspects of their friendships.

In addition to Streep's role since season 3, March announcements revealed that Renée Zellweger would join the cast, followed by confirmations of Logan Lerman, Jermaine Fowler, Christoph Waltz, Keegan-Michael Key, and Beanie Feldstein. Despite speculation about Streep and Short's relationship off-screen, representatives clarified they are "just very good friends." Fogelman also remarked on their "unbelievable" chemistry both on and off screen.
