We’ve waited what feels like a lifetime — the whispers, the rumors, the endless fan casting. But at long last, it’s official: HBO has finally pulled back the curtain and revealed the first names stepping into some of the wizarding world’s most iconic roles.
One thing is clear: no cast member from the previous adaptation will reprise their roles — and let’s be honest, what would be the point of a new series if the old actors were playing the same parts? Now, the first official report, straight from The Guardian, has confirmed the casting: John Lithgow will take on the role of Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu will bring Severus Snape to life, Janet McTeer will embody Minerva McGonagall, and Nick Frost will step into the shoes of Rubeus Hagrid. All four actors are set to be regulars in the series. Luke Thallon will play Quirinus Quirrell, while Paul Whitehouse steps into the role of Argus Filch, with both actors appearing in guest and recurring roles.

However, the most thrilling part is yet to unfold — the roles of Harry, Hermione, and Ron are still up for grabs. HBO has launched an open casting call, searching for children between the ages of 9 and 11, residing in the U.K. or Ireland. With an emphasis on inclusivity, the casting is open to performers of all races, ethnicities, and gender identities, promising a fresh take on the iconic trio.
Filming for the series is set to begin in the U.K. between 2025 and 2026, with fans eagerly awaiting the magical debut in 2026.
