The lead characters of the new Mummy film have finally been revealed. Laia Costa and Jack Reynor will play a married couple who, instead of a son, now have a daughter — together, they fight against a rising mummy. Production begins this week in Ireland. Mummy is set for an April 17, 2026 release.
In December writer-director Lee Cronin told THR that "This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before. I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening."
As we see, this new Mummy will be a reboot of the Mummy franchise, but it is not specifically tied to any of the earlier versions, such as the 1932 original starring Boris Karloff. It will be a fresh take, separate from the previous reboots, including the 1999 film and its 2017 version starring Tom Cruise. So, it would be considered a new entry or a reimagining, rather than a direct reboot of a specific version.

Lee Cronin is best known as the director of Evil Dead Rise (2023), a critically acclaimed entry in the Evil Dead horror franchise. He also directed The Hole in the Ground (2019), a psychological horror film.
