Neon has spent $18 million on the advertising campaign for Sean Baker's Anora, three times the film's budget, NME reports. The funds were spent on print, digital and TV advertising, which made the film's promotion massive.
How did Anora perform at the box office?
Despite an active advertising campaign and positive reviews, the film's box office receipts amounted to $41.6 million. Among the winners in the Best Picture category in recent decades, only Nomadland ($39 million) and CODA ($3 million) have collected less, but those projects faced the pandemic and limited release on Apple TV+.
Anora is coming to streaming
Following its theatrical release, the film is already available on Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime, where, according to Neon CEO Tom Quinn, it occupies a leading position. The studio's management considers this a "tremendous success", despite the modest results at the box office.
