Fans of Chainsaw Man have been eagerly awaiting the second season since 2022. Meanwhile, studio MAPPA remains silent — at least about the series. Instead of new episodes, fans will get a feature film, Chainsaw Man: The Reze Story, which will be released in Japan on September 19, 2025.
The film's plot will continue the story from the first season: Denji meets the mysterious girl Reze, and a strange, frightening, and very captivating romance begins between them. But those who have read the manga know that Reze has her own inner demons — and not just in a metaphorical sense.
In the meantime, there has been no official announcement for the second season. Rumors suggest it could be released in late 2025 or 2026. But there's no certainty: MAPPA is bogged down with other projects, such as Jujutsu Kaisen, and after the criticism of the first season — from animation to direction — there have even been talks of a team change.

A full-fledged drama has unfolded within the fandom: scandals, debates about who should voice Denji, and why the series isn’t as "psychotic" as the manga. Add to that the ongoing arguments about the working conditions of animators, and it's clear why MAPPA is taking its time. The feature film seems to be a way to buy time and test whether there's still interest in the project, according to commentators from CBR.
And judging by the excitement around the movie trailer and new artwork, interest is very much alive. It seems fans are willing to wait until 2026, as long as Denji revs up his chainsaw again.
