The The Wheel of Time series is slowly gathering momentum, and the local mages play a significant role in that. Some throw lightning, some weave intrigues, some bring people back from the dead, and some just sit and smirk slyly — like Lanfear. But which of them could actually level a tower (yes, the White Tower) with a flick of the wrist?
It’s no wonder this series is already being called the antithesis of Game of Thrones, as even Bran Stark and Lady Melisandre seem weak compared to these spellcasters.
The Bottom of the Top
We start at the lower ranks, with Kerene Nagashi — a battle-hardened warrior who appears and disappears faster than a surge of power. Next are Elayne and Egwene, two young magic users from golden youth: one a princess, the other a top student. They’re still learning, but their potential is jaw-dropping — especially Egwene.

Then comes Moghedien, who hides in the shadows — and that only makes her more dangerous. Her style isn’t thunder, it’s whisper. And if you hear it — run. One spot higher is Nynaeve — an emotional volcano with superpowers. She can raise the dead and simultaneously cause an explosion bigger than the one in that Guy Fawkes movie.
The Golden Middle
Next up: Lanfear. Ah, Lanfear… She’s not just powerful — she’s cunning, seductive, and immortal. Logain Ablar comes in sixth — he shoots out mesmerizing sparks and believes himself to be the Dragon Reborn. Well, you never know.
The Most Powerful Characters
And now the heavyweights — part of the Forsaken: Sammael, Rahvin, Ishamael. One pretends to be a king, another a queen’s lover, and the third — a philosopher-terminator who has lived the longest and knows exactly what the apocalypse looks like. They’re like the heads of a hydra.

And of course, at the top — Rand al’Thor. This character will outmatch everyone else, but only in the continuation. For now, the pretty boy hasn’t shown up yet.
