Kirsten Dunst & Mikey Madison Star Together in Florida-Set Exotic Animal Trade Thriller: What We Know

Kirsten Dunst & Mikey Madison

The film centers on a dental hygienist who becomes entangled in Florida’s dark and wet underworld of exotic animal trade after being seduced by a mysterious mermaid.

Mikey Madison, who recently earned acclaim for her Oscar-winning performance in Anora, is set to star alongside Kirsten Dunst in the upcoming thriller Reptilia. The project will be directed by Alejandro Landes Echavarría, known for his hallucinatory hostage drama Monos, which premiered at Sundance in 2019 and won the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award. Reptilia is based on a screenplay by Landes Echavarría and Duke Merriman, with production led by Imperative Entertainment, Pastel, AF Films, and Landes Echavarría’s A Stela Cine. Black Bear is financing the film.

Landes Echavarría’s previous works include Porfirio, which premiered at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight in 2011, and the documentary Cocalero, debuting at Sundance in 2007. His acclaimed film Monos also earned Best Film at the BFI London Film Festival and was Colombia’s official entry for Best International Feature at the Oscars.

Madison gained fame with her role in Anora and appeared in Scream and Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. On TV, she was part of FX’s Better Things. Kirsten Dunst has won Best Actress at Cannes for Melancholia, received an Oscar nomination for The Power of the Dog, and starred in films like The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette, and the original Spider-Man. She will next appear in Derek Cianfrance’s Roofman with Channing Tatum and Ruben Östlund’s The Entertainment System is Down.
