In a twist few saw coming, Kevin Spacey has stepped behind the camera once again. For the first time in over two decades, the two-time Oscar winner is directing a feature — and, in true cinematic fashion, starring in it too. The film is Holiguards, a low-budget sci-fi fantasy adventure that sounds as wildly ambitious as it does improbable. Set in a war-torn future where supernatural factions clash over the fate of humanity, the project is currently in post-production after filming in Mexico.
The story centres on a covert war between two rival forces: the Holiguards and the Statiguards. At the heart of the chaos is a young woman born of both bloodlines, who may hold the key to peace — assuming a Statiguard strategist doesn’t obliterate Paris while opening a cosmic portal to unleash an entity known ominously as 'the Prime'. (Amazon branding this is not.) The plot is laced with epic stakes, pulpy energy, and just enough self-seriousness to keep a straight face.
Alongside Spacey, the film boasts a supporting cast that seems drawn from multiple cinematic dimensions: Dolph Lundgren, Tyrese Gibson, Eric Roberts, Brianna Hildebrand, Disha Patani, and a handful of social media influencers round out the ensemble. The film was produced on a reported budget of $10 million and is being positioned as the first entry in a potential franchise by production company Elledgy Media — run by Portugal-based Ukrainian entrepreneur Elvira Gavrilova Paterson.

Spacey has largely remained off the mainstream radar in recent years, making Holiguards a notable and, for many, surprising return to the director’s chair. Whether this genre-blending gamble launches a new phase of his career — or simply exists as a curiosity in sci-fi obscurity — remains to be seen.
