It seems Joaquin Phoenix has outdone the master of transformation, Christian Bale. As we know, Bale is famous for his intense dedication to his roles — sometimes to the point of risking his health.
In his new collaboration with director Ari Aster, Phoenix didn’t push himself to such extremes, but he has absolutely nailed the transformation into a tough sheriff. At first glance, you wouldn’t even recognise him!
In the first official photo released from the movie by World of Reel, we see a completely transformed Joaquin Phoenix. Dressed in a white cowboy hat and jacket, paired with horn-rimmed glasses and a rugged beard, he’s virtually unrecognizable.
All we know about Ari Aster's upcoming feature Eddington is that it’s a black comedy and contemporary Western. Set during the Covid-19 pandemic, the film follows a couple who find themselves trapped in a small New Mexico town, blending sharp political commentary with intense violence. Joaquin Phoenix, appearing in the film’s first-look photo, seems to play a power-hungry sheriff whose ambition to become mayor causes conflict among the townspeople. The movie, coming this summer, also stars Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Luke Grimes, and Deirdre O'Connell.
