Amazon MGM Studios has secured the worldwide rights to The Beekeeper 2, the sequel to the surprisingly successful Jason Statham-led action film, in a deal reportedly valued at over $50 million. The acquisition positions the sequel as a high-profile addition to Amazon’s growing theatrical ambitions — and marks a significant shift in how Miramax is handling international sales.
Statham will return as the vengeance-driven operative with a beekeeping cover and a particularly explosive moral code. Production is slated to begin this autumn, with Timo Tjahjanto — best known for his work on The Night Comes for Us and the upcoming Nobody 2 — stepping in to direct. The script comes from Umair Aleem, while Statham himself will produce via his Punch Palace Productions, alongside Miramax and longtime collaborators Chris Long and Wimmer.
The first film, directed by David Ayer, told the story of a reclusive former intelligence agent who launches a personal war on a cybercrime ring after his elderly neighbour falls victim to a phishing scam. Despite its pulpy premise, the film grossed an impressive $163 million globally and quietly built enough momentum to justify a franchise.

While plot details for The Beekeeper 2 remain under wraps, industry chatter suggests it could be among the first major releases under Amazon’s new international theatrical banner. If so, expect a honeyed mix of high-octane violence, conspiratorial undertones, and Statham glowering meaningfully in slow motion. The bees, it seems, are far from done.
