Jared Leto Is In Negotiations To Join Al Pacino In Barry Levinson's JFK Thriller 'Assassination'

The Oscar-winning star Jared Leto is close to joining Barry Levinson's impressive ensemble for the David Mamet co-scripted film  'Assassination'.

Although Leto’s deal isn’t finalized yet, it is reportedly nearing completion. He will star alongside fellow 'House of Gucci' cast member Al Pacino, as well as Jessica Chastain, Brendan Fraser, and Bryan Cranston in this JFK conspiracy thriller.

The film revolves around groundbreaking female crime reporter Dorothy Kilgallen, portrayed by Chastain. Suspecting that Lee Harvey Oswald did not act alone in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Kilgallen leverages her fame and influence to uncover the truth behind JFK’s real killer. Her pursuit of the story puts her at odds with the CIA, mafia bosses, and the FBI, all keen to suppress her findings.

The screenplay is co-written by Levinson, Sam Bromell, and Mamet, with Corey Large and Jason Sosnoff producing. Large is also financing the project, while John Burnham, Bernie Gewissler, Pia Patatian, and Jordan Nott serve as executive producers.

Production is set to begin in Boston early next year, with Patatian managing global rights through her new company, Cloud 9, after launching the project at AFM last month. Nicholas Celozzi is also involved in producing.

Louisiana-born Leto is not only the lead vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and main songwriter for the rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars but has also starred in major films such as 'Panic Room', 'Suicide Squad', 'Blade Runner 2049', and 'House of Gucci'. He will next be seen in the Disney reboot 'Tron: Ares', scheduled for release on October 10, 2025. Additionally, Leto starred alongside Anne Hathaway in the AppleTV+ series 'WeCrashed', which chronicles the rise and fall of WeWork. He received accolades including a Best Supporting Actor Oscar, a Golden Globe, a Film Independent Spirit Award, and a SAG Award for his role in 'Dallas Buyers Club'. Leto is represented by WME.
