Directed by Justin Kurzel, the series features rising star Jacob Elordi as Dorrigo Evans, a young Tasmanian doctor whose life is forever altered by a forbidden love affair and the harrowing experiences of being a prisoner of war during World War II.
The narrative follows Dorrigo as he joins the army, only to be captured and forced to work on the notorious Burma railway, a site of immense suffering for Allied POWs. The cast also includes Ciarán Hinds as an older Dorrigo, alongside Odessa Young, Olivia DeJonge, and Simon Baker, among others.
After its debut at the Berlin Film Festival, Narrow Road garnered critical acclaim, with The Hollywood Reporter praising its potential to resonate alongside classic Australian war films. Kurzel, known for his work on Nitram and The Order, directed all five episodes, with the screenplay adapted by Shaun Grant.
Produced by Curio Pictures and distributed by Sony Pictures Television, the series received funding from Screen Australia and the NSW Government. With international rights held by various networks, the miniseries promises to be a poignant exploration of love and resilience amidst the horrors of war.
