Lord Farquaad, the scheming ruler of Duloc with a lust for power and insecurities about his short stature, may return in Shrek 5. Despite being literally gobbled up by a dragon in the first film, actor John Lithgow is happy to return to the role.
Why Farquaad's appearance is important
Fans have long been discussing how the charismatic narcissist Farquaad could return: in the form of flashbacks, with the help of magic, or even in the form of a funny twist with the character being revived, after all, the Shrek universe has always been famous for unexpected plot twists. The actor himself has not yet received an official offer, but the news of a possible comeback has already caused a stir.
What does Lithgow say about his return
79-year-old John Lithgow, who gave his voice to Lord Farquaad in 2001, admitted that he would gladly return to this role.

"I would agree without hesitation!" - said the actor.
The premiere of Shrek 5 is scheduled for the summer of 2026, and it is still unknown whether the creators will include Farquaad in the new story. But Lithgow is ready, this is already a good sign and, perhaps, a hint to all of us. Considering that the part will be a kind of reboot, it may feature important villains for the story, for whom the happiness of Shrek and Fiona will be an eyesore.
