If You're Tired of Polished Comedies: This 'Black Comedy' With McAvoy Has Pretty Good Rating, and You Might Have Missed a Great Movie

James McAvoy in 'Filth'

It's not just American Pie.

If your soul is craving something sharp, provocative and unvarnished, and smooth comedies are already starting to make you feel sick, the 2013 film Filth can be an excellent choice. This is not just a black comedy, but a real punch in the gut, where sarcasm and cynicism are combined with deep psychology.

What is the film about?

Filth Still

The main character is Bruce Robertson, a charismatic but deeply rotten detective, played by James McAvoy. He dreams of being promoted to inspector, but instead of fair competition, he chooses the path of manipulation, dirty intrigues and cruel games. Blackmail, set-ups, moral decay are his main tools.

Bruce's colleagues are also aiming for this position, but he knows their weaknesses and vices and will not miss the opportunity to take advantage of them. However, behind all this external superiority lies a broken personality that lives in illusions and desperately tries to regain control of his own life.

Why is it worth watching

Filth is a mix of dark humor, drama and outright madness.

James McAvoy in one of his best roles. If you are used to seeing him in the image of noble heroes, here he completely transforms into a depraved and crazy cop.

Rough humor and social satire. The film is not afraid to ridicule the weaknesses of society and challenges morality.

Unexpected depth. Despite all the cynicism, the film has a lot of personal drama, which makes it not only "dirty", but also emotionally powerful.

Rating and reviews

The film received decent ratings from viewers: IMDb – 7.0 This is a movie for those who are ready for unpleasant but honest films, where the main character is far from a paragon of morality, but he is damn interesting to watch. If you like tough, dark comedies, Filth is a great option.
