The hunt is on for Narnia’s most formidable villain. As Greta Gerwig prepares her adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew for Netflix, the role of Jadis — the infamous White Witch — is still up for grabs.
Though initial reports linked pop star Charli XCX to the part, insider Jeff Sneider now claims she’s no longer in the running. Instead, Gerwig is expected to audition three actresses for the role, with Margaret Qualley (The Substance) and Emma Mackey (Sex Education) emerging as frontrunners.
Both actresses offer intriguing possibilities: Qualley is known for her intensity and offbeat charisma, while Mackey has shown remarkable depth in both drama and comedy. Their performances could bring new dimensions to a character who’s equal parts regal and ruthless.

Production is set to begin this July at Shepperton Studios in the UK, though the White Witch likely won’t appear on set until August. Netflix, for now, remains tight-lipped about casting or plot specifics.
Based on C.S. Lewis’s The Magician’s Nephew, the film will explore the origins of Narnia’s magical world. With Gerwig at the helm, expectations are high — and the eventual casting of Jadis may be key to setting the tone for this new chapter.
