Ado (or Aaduo) is not just a concubine. She is older than the others, has long left the palace, and doesn’t seem to play a leading role in the anime The Apothecary Diaries. But in reality, her fate subtly reveals how the inner world of the imperial life is arranged — and which feelings are valued more than youth.
Ado is 35 years old, one of the oldest and most respected women at court. She has known the emperor since childhood, was his "pure friend," carried this title with dignity, and lived in the Garnet Pavilion. Unlike the other concubines, she never chased power — and perhaps it was this that earned her the emperor’s special trust.
Ado’s main tragedy is a difficult childbirth, after which she lost her child and became infertile. This forever changed her attitude toward life in the palace.

She doesn’t compete for the emperor’s attention or rival other women; instead, she remains his true friend and advisor. And at some point — she herself decides to leave. Because she knows: her love is not about power, but about understanding.
