After years of delays, director Chad Stahelski is finally drawing his sword for the long-gestating Highlander reboot.
Best known for redefining action cinema with the John Wick franchise, Stahelski now turns his attention to a different kind of mythos — one filled with immortal warriors, sweeping romance, and, yes, plenty of swordplay. Leading the charge is Henry Cavill, stepping back into fantasy-hero mode for the first time since departing The Witcher.
Details remain under wraps, but Stahelski confirmed this week that production is now slated to begin in September. The film has bounced around in development limbo for years, with previous start dates pushed back — most recently due to Stahelski’s involvement in reshoots for Ballerina, the John Wick spin-off starring Ana de Armas. According to Collider, the director now feels confident enough to say, "If everything works out in the next 24 hours, we’ll be shooting sometime in September."

While Stahelski has hinted the tone will be markedly different from the 1986 original (and its infamously chaotic sequels), fans can still expect his signature 'balletic action' — particularly when it comes to the sword fighting.
"It’s another opportunity to do a property that I love," he said. "I think it’s a good way to take a great period piece, and sci-fi, and mix them together."
If all goes to plan, Highlander will finally reach screens in 2027 or 2028.
