As Amazon prepares a new reboot of the James Bond franchise, Helen Mirren has admitted that she never liked the British epic because of its portrayal of women. However, the actress would not be interested in seeing a female 007, primarily because of the character’s history.
“The whole James Bond series is not my thing. I’ve never liked James Bond. I’ve never liked women in James Bond films… The whole concept of James Bond is deeply sexist,” Mirren told The Standard in a new interview.
Women are more than just superheroes' girlfriends
The actress noted that in fact, women have always been an incredibly important part of the intelligence services, and she would prefer that the screen tell "real stories about extraordinary women who worked in this world."

At the same time, Helen Mirren speaks very positively about the actors she knows who played James Bond. Now, together with Pierce Brosnan, she is promoting the crime drama Mobland, several episodes of which were directed by Guy Ritchie.
"I'm a big fan of Pierce Brosnan," Mirren shared. "Obviously, he's great and all that... But he's also one of the nicest people I've ever worked with."
She also called Daniel Craig a very "sweet and kind person."
Who's at the helm?
The Bond franchise is currently undergoing serious changes. Not long ago, Amazon acquired creative control over the large-scale project. After this, it became known that David Heyman (Harry Potter) and Amy Pascal (Venom) will now be at the helm of the franchise.
