HBO has unveiled the official trailer for Mountainhead, a new original film from Jesse Armstrong, creator of Succession.
The trailer introduces four ultra-wealthy tech billionaires — played by Steve Carell , Jason Schwartzman , Cory Michael Smith, and Ramy Youssef — who enjoy a luxurious ski trip. Initially, they revel in their riches, hitting the slopes and exchanging sharp insults. However, their carefree vacation is disrupted when they see news reports of global chaos and violence, with some blaming social media platforms run by Smith’s character Venis. Skeptical of the reports, Youssef’s Jeff dismisses the violence as unlikely to be real. Carell’s Randall tries to rally his friends to fix the world — after all, they’re rich enough to buy countries — while Youssef’s character criticizes Venis’s algorithm for being racist and ineffective.
The film explores how these billionaire friends confront a worldwide crisis amid mounting chaos. Armstrong, who also directs, wrapped production last month in Park City, Utah. Known for Succession, which won multiple Emmys before concluding in 2023, Armstrong has also written for Black Mirror, and was Oscar-nominated for In the Loop. Mountainhead promises a sharp satire on wealth and power amid global turmoil.
