HBO has finally announced when fans can expect the return of The Last of Us.
Season 2 is set to premiere on April 13 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, securing the coveted Sunday night slot following the conclusion of The White Lotus Season 3. As usual, episodes will be available for streaming on Max simultaneously with their HBO broadcast.
Along with the premiere date, HBO unveiled striking new character posters featuring Ellie (Bella Ramsey), Joel (Pedro Pascal), and Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), building excitement for the next chapter in the series.
What to Expect in Season 2?
HBO has offered glimpses of the upcoming season through teasers and images, though a full trailer has yet to be released. How much of the plot will be adapted from The Last of Us Part II remains a mystery. HBO’s Francesca Orsi recently hinted that the series could span four seasons, suggesting that only a portion of the second game’s narrative will be covered in Season 2.
This aligns with earlier comments from co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, who have emphasized that the second game’s story is too vast to fit into a single season.
A World More Dangerous Than Ever
Season 2 picks up five years after the events of Season 1, with Joel and Ellie navigating new challenges in a world that has become even more unpredictable.
Returning cast members include Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria. They will be joined by a host of new faces, including Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac. Additionally, Catherine O’Hara is set to guest star.
With a mix of returning favorites and new characters, The Last of Us Season 2 promises to bring even more drama, action, and emotional depth when it debuts this April.
