Could you imagine George Clooney turning down roles and losing out to other actors? Clooney himself? But no, it’s actually possible — and there's a reason for it.
It turns out, the actor has come to terms with his age and understands that, in some roles, he simply wouldn’t be suitable due to his age.
In the 60 Minutes program, the star shared his opinion that the era of romantic comedies in his career is now behind him.
"I'm not doing romantic films anymore." He elaborated, "Look, I’m 63 years old. I’m not trying to compete with 25-year-old leading men. That’s not my job."
George Clooney has starred in several notable romantic comedies, including One Fine Day (1996), where he teams up with Michelle Pfeiffer as single parents who form an unexpected connection. In Intolerable Cruelty (2003), he plays a divorce lawyer in a witty Coen Brothers film. Up in the Air (2009) blends romance and drama, earning Clooney an Oscar nomination.
And his latest rom-com was not so long ago. In 2022, the actor starred in lead roles alongside Julia Roberts in Ticket to Paradise. The film, which follows a divorced couple who team up to stop their daughter’s wedding, was a commercial success, proving that Clooney could still thrive in the romantic comedy genre.
