Sydney Sweeney is stepping into the world of Split Fiction, the hit co-op video game from Hazelight Studios, now set for a big-screen adaptation. Directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Deadpool & Wolverine scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the project has quickly become one of Hollywood’s buzziest game-to-screen offerings.
Produced by Story Kitchen and Chu’s Electric Somewhere, the film is currently being pitched to studios. Sweeney, also onboard as executive producer, leads a package that blends fantasy, science fiction, and action-driven storytelling — much like the game itself.
In Split Fiction, two authors — Zoe and Mio — are sucked into the chaotic worlds of their own creation. With split-screen gameplay and puzzle-platform mechanics, the story balances imagination with high-stakes survival. It's not yet confirmed which role Sweeney will take on.

Since its March 6 release, the game has sold over two million copies in its first week, earning praise from critics and players alike. Variety first reported on the film during GDC 2025, where it was revealed that major studios are already circling the project.
With a star lead, a proven creative team, and a rich world to explore, Split Fiction could be the next big leap in the ever-growing video game adaptation boom.
