Anime remains a highly sought-after genre among viewers, and the upcoming release of the animated series Lazarus proves this once again. Fans are confident that this project will appeal not only to those familiar with Japanese culture but also to newcomers, as the non-stop action is sure to captivate everyone.
Plot of Lazarus
Set in the year 2052, Lazarus takes place after humanity has eradicated all diseases thanks to a miraculous drug. However, the scientist responsible for the discovery mysteriously disappears. Soon after, it is revealed that anyone who has taken the medication will die within the next three years. To resolve this, the government forms a special group named Lazarus, tasked with finding the scientist and the cure.
What Sets Lazarus Apart
Created by Shinichirō Watanabe, renowned for his works Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop, Lazarus has generated much excitement among anime enthusiasts. Many of Watanabe’s peers dream of collaborating with this cult figure, which is why every action scene in Lazarus has been directed by Chad Stahelski, the mastermind behind John Wick. Stahelski, a former stuntman, took on the role for no pay, simply to work with his idol.
Fans are expecting Lazarus to have a similar feel to Cowboy Bebop, given the sci-fi future setting, the central duo of the protagonist and his partner, and the jazzy soundtrack hinted at in the trailer. We’ll find out just how accurate these assumptions are on April 5th, when the first season, consisting of 10 episodes, premieres.
