It seems that Karl Urban enjoys portraying superheroes with superhuman strength and endurance. And although the final season of The Boys is approaching, Urban isn't sitting idly by. The actor has become the central character in the continuation of another legendary franchise — and we can't wait to enjoy the new footage.
In Mortal Kombat 2, Karl Urban takes on the role of Johnny Cage, now the main character. Once a Hollywood star, Johnny is now washed up and unexpectedly pulled into the brutal world of Mortal Kombat. Ed Boon, co-creator of the game, shared his thoughts on Urban’s portrayal of Johnny Cage, with EW explaining that the character’s journey will help introduce audiences to the chaotic world.
"Johnny Cage is a big part of this movie," Boon said. "We’ve never shown his role like this before. He’s a fallen star thrown into a violent, otherworldly contest. Karl gives Johnny his own unique twist, and while it’s different from the game, it’s still fresh."
In this movie, Johnny Cage will guide viewers through the Mortal Kombat tournament, though other iconic characters like Kitana (played by Adeline Rudolph) will also appear. Fans can also expect the rivalry between Sub-Zero and Scorpion to continue. The focus will mainly be on the tournament and the intense battles. The film will hit IMAX theaters on October 24.
